The Crikey Magazine was officially launched in March 2007. A small team of two started preparing the magazine just two months before the release date. Issue one of the Crikey Magazine started as a 56-page publication. Now, one year on, the magazine has grown to an action-packed 100 page glossy colorful family magazine. We currently print 22,000 copies of the magazine to distribute throughout newsagents nationally, and international to subscribers.
Australia Zoo CRIKEY! Magazine was created to feed the need for fun wildlife education and spread the conservation message. Steve Irwin lived for conservation, making it his mission to show people all around the world how they can make a difference. Readers learn about the animal kingdom and how to protect the world they live in.
The content of the quarterly magazine is wide-ranging, with articles on conservation and environmental issues to fashion features, interactive kids' pages and up-to-date information on the Irwin family.
Just a few popular features of the CRIKEY! Magazine are:
Senior Editor
Sally is thrilled to be heading up the CRIKEY! Magazine team, in what can only be described as a dream come true for this keen journalist and creative being. There is nothing more rewarding for Sally than seeing all her hard work - writing, creative and art direction, editing, proofing and organising - materialising into the beautiful finished product!
Here at the Zoo, we call people like Sal "lifers" - she is going to hang around this joint forever! Why wouldn't she? The Zoo has provided her with endless amazing opportunities over the past five years and has never failed to provide an ever-changing and exciting environment.
Her previous roles as Public Relations Manager for Australia Zoo's Marketing Department and for Wildlife Warriors Worldwide have put her in good stead for this fast-thinking and creative position. When she's not interviewing Zoo Crew members and celebrities, writing articles, (then picking them to pieces), and making grand plans for upcoming issues, Sal, the single supermum, loves spending time with the most adorable child in the whole world - her son, Jonah.
Editorial Assistant/PR
Gillian loves the friendly environment at Australia Zoo. She started in July 2007 in the Crocoseum Shop and has now joined the CRIKEY! Magazine Team.
Gillian has just completed her Bachelor Degree in Business Management and hopes to put her skills to good use.
In her spare time she is a jewellery-maker, and one day would like to run her own jewellery business. She also loves hanging out with close friends, going to the beach as much as she can and traveling overseas. So you never know where you might spot her - Mexico, Thailand or even Europe!
Graphic Designer
Andrea began working at Australia Zoo in the Crocoseum Boutique in November 2007. In April she moved to the Crikey! Magazine team and absolutely loves it! She has spent the last few years completing a Degree in Graphic Design and travelling overseas.
Andrea loves to spend her spare time at the beach with her pup Lucy. She enjoys the work environment at Australia Zoo and her favourite animal is, well, all of them!
Advertising Sales Coordinator
When not speaking to clients about potential advertising opportunities to promote their businesses with Australia Zoo, I can be found spending time with the animals around the Zoo especially the birds, elephants, and tigers.
In my spare time I can be found with my family and new baby, playing oztag and enjoying surfing and mountain biking.
